Audi Q8 receives minor aesthetic changes

Exactly five years after the presentation of the first Audi Q8, the Germans from Ingolstadt showed an updated version of the successful SUV. The model has received a minor facelift that includes new headlights, fresh new colors, new wheels and an upgraded interior design, as well as new connectivity technologies.

In addition to the Q8, the sports model SQ8 also received a facelift, retaining its powerful 8-cylinder petrol biturbo engine. The updated Audi Q8 can now be ordered from brand dealers in Europe, and first deliveries will begin towards the end of the year.

In the facelift of the Audi Q8, the distinctive octagonal radiator grille now extends below the headlights, and the cabin features larger cells. Below the grille is a new bumper with integrated larger air intakes.

The biggest innovation in the Audi Q8 and Audi Q7 is the new headlights with HD matrix LED technology, which includes 24 LEDs on each headlight, and laser high beam is also available as an option, which only turns on when the road is empty and at speeds above 70 km/ h. Several models of daytime running lights are also available.

The rear lights are now digital OLED for the first time in the Q8 family. The large SUV carries new Audi branding in the form of new rings with the company logo. There is a difference between the basic version of the model and the sports version of the S line, since in the first case there is more black plastic, and in the sports version the radiator grille and headlights are made in glossy black.

The new wheels come with 20-inch rims as standard, with alloy wheels available as an option in sizes ranging from 21 to 23 inches in a two-tone design. In addition to all this, Audi offers the Q8 three new metallic exterior colors — Sakhir Gold, Ascari Blue and Chili Red.

The interior of the updated Audi Q8 features new trims and upholstery, as well as new seat stitching and new decorative inserts. The Virtual Cockpit now features a high-quality instrument panel, as well as new apps installed in the infotainment system to improve in-vehicle connectivity.

This will include the ability to use third party apps such as Spotify or Amazon Music. Over-the-air software updates and expanded applications provide complete digital connectivity. New safety systems have been added to assist the driver.

The updated Audi Q8 is initially available in three variants. The base model is the 45 TDI, equipped with a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbodiesel engine producing 231 hp. and 500 Nm of torque. The more powerful 50 TDI version is equipped with a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine, but with a higher output of 286 hp. and 600 Nm. With its help, the Audi Q8 can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.

The only remaining petrol engine is a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder direct injection turbo in the 55 TFSI variant, producing a maximum power of 340 PS. and 500 Nm of torque. With its help, the huge SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h. All three engines feature 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

The sports version of the SQ8 remains with a powerful 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo petrol engine producing 507 hp. and 770 Nm of torque. With its help, the sports SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, and the speed is limited to 250 km/h. The Audi SQ8 features a classic aluminum grille and side mirrors, as well as a sportier interior.

The SQ8 also comes standard with 21-inch wheels with 285/45 tires. 22-inch or 23-inch wheels are available for an additional cost. Brakes are 400mm discs at the front and 350mm discs at the rear. All versions of the Audi Q8 drive is Quattro all-wheel drive and the transmission is an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic as standard. However, in the SQ8, the automatic transmission shifts more aggressively and provides an extra thrill for the driver.

The standard Audi Q8’s suspension is steel springs with adjustable damper control, but adaptive air suspension is also available as an option, with particularly sporty settings found on the sportiest SQ8 model. Rear-wheel steering for greater agility and agility is optional on all models except the SQ8, where rear-wheel steering is standard.
