Škoda Superb IV: space, comfort and long-range plug-in hybrid

The new Superb will be even larger than its predecessor, although the width and wheelbase will remain unchanged. For the liftback, Skoda claims a length increase of 43 mm to 4.91 m. The height of the Czech model has increased by twelve millimeters to 1.48 m, offering more headroom to passengers in both rows of seats. Trunk volume will increase by 20 liters to 645 liters. Technically new for the model are matrix LED headlights and DCC Plus adaptive suspension.

Skoda Superb with interior innovations

In the interior, the steering wheel, combined control display, instrument panel and decorative trims have been optimized; The gear shift lever is located on the steering column. A clean center console creates additional space for the front passenger.

A new head-up display complementing the 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit and a free-standing 13-inch central infotainment screen characterize the interior. Also appearing for the first time are Skoda Smart Dials – rotary and push buttons that combine tactile and digital elements.

What can a smart set do?

Below the infotainment display, three rotary buttons with 32mm digital displays provide quick access to various vehicle functions — depending on the equipment level. External smart buttons are used to control interior temperature, heated and ventilated seats. The central smart button controls selected functions such as infotainment volume, fan levels, air vents, air conditioning, driving modes and map zoom. The central smart button can be configured and adjusted via the infotainment menu.

Massage seats and umbrella

Other new offerings include a Phone Box charging niche with up to 15W of power for inductively charging smartphones, including a cooling function, as well as up to four 45W USB-C ports and a 15W USB-C port on the rear panel. mirror. In Superba, attention is drawn to the steering wheel with a new design, instrument panel, decorative elements and improved massage seats. Eco-friendliness is reflected in eco-friendly interior textile materials and two popular attributes: a driver’s door sunshade and an ice scraper.

Also new to the model are an electrically operated sunshade over the luggage compartment in the Superb Combi, a central armrest with integrated tablet holder between the rear seats and a double pocket on the back of the front seats in which to store documents, magazines or a smartphone. New to the Superb is an integrated funnel in the windshield washer fluid reservoir cap.

Skoda Superb and liftback (Passat)

The current 3V series has been on sale since mid-2015 and is produced at the Skoda plant in Kvasinya. With the change of generations, the place of production also changes. In the fall of 2023, the Superb will roll off the assembly line at the Bratislava plant along with the upcoming VW Passat. Unlike the Passat B9, which will also receive a facelift in 2023 — but only as an estate — the Superb will continue to be offered in two body styles — as a liftback (three-door, but with a large rear hatch that includes a rear window) and as an estate. However, the new generation has evolved only slightly. The mid-range model continues to be based on VW’s modular transverse engine (MQB) system and grows in size like the larger Octavia.

Skoda is giving a new look to the front apron with vertical air vents, as well as a redesigned, now octagonal grille flanked by narrower headlights with LED technology. The side view reveals the classic three-box shape, large rear door openings and the lower edge of the windows rising towards the C-pillar, which also characterized the previous model. Like the headlights, the taillights have also been reduced in size. The exhaust tips are no longer visible. Skoda claims to have improved aerodynamics, but the manufacturer has not yet announced the drag coefficient.

With petrol, diesel and hybrid drive

Skoda is offering the fourth generation Superb with mild hybrid technology for the first time. The basic petrol version is 1.5 TSI with 150 hp. The four-cylinder engine is coupled to a 48 V belt-driven starter-alternator and a 48 V lithium-ion battery. The new Superb is also available in two 2.0 TSI variants with 204 hp and 265 hp. The most powerful petrol variant, like the top-of-the-line 193bhp 2.0-litre diesel, has a dual gearbox as standard. 2.0 TDI with 150 hp completes the range. Without exception, all Superb engines are mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG). For the plug-in hybrid version of the Superb Combi, the Czechs promise a purely electric range of more than 100 kilometers.
